    Dates:
    August 19-September 23

    Class Description:

Do you prefer your phrases in meter and rhyme?
Or does free-verse fill your fleeting time?
Bring an artist’s eye and a poet’s heart
And I will show you how to start.
    (or finish? Or refine?
Whatever your needs, we will define…)
Be it for love, or praise, or thought,
No better instruction can be bought:
Learn poetry forms, meter, and rhyme.
Read from the masters for inspiration sublime.
Write your masterworks, read, and review
Edit to perfection is something we’ll do.

    Short Story Workshop:
    Dates:
    October 7 – November 11
Class Description: It happens every morning: the dream fades from memory even as you grasp at the last tendrils of the story. You are out jogging and come up with the most incredible hook for the world’s best story. You are brushing your teeth and accidentally spit all over the mirror as you think of the funniest, most unexpected joke ever told. It is the human condition: genius only happens when you are unprepared.
This class will focus on how to grab those ideas, hastily scrawled on a napkin, recorded into your phone, or overheard at the family party and put them into a captivating story. The plot thickens!  Not only will you be encouraged, but you will re-learn about plot, arcs, themes and characters so you can get your ideas down into a true story. We’ll work on the writing process all the way through editing and preparing for publication – even if your intent is only to publish for yourself; why not give yourself your best?

    Screenplay Workshop:
    Dates:
    January 13 – February 17
Class Description: Have you ever thought to yourself, “they should make a reality TV show out of my life?” Maybe (just maybe) you should be the “they” and write your own screenplay. If you can imagine your life, or one of your stories, or even the excuse you made up for why you were speeding the other day, as a movie or TV show, then this is the class for you.
Bring your best characters (or all of your personalities) and your best dialogue and all that creative vision stuff so that we can get it into a screenplay format fit for Netflix. In this class we’ll work through storytelling (examples and live practice), monologues and dialogues, visual directions, stage descriptions, and standard screenplay format. The goal of the class is for every student to make a screenplay that will be acted out by Reclaim Drama classes. One may even be selected as a full showcase production!!  Bring your inner Shakespeare! Bring your Cohen Brothers! Bring your inner Coppola! (Honestly, just bring yourself: YOU are going to be awesome!)

    Memoirs Workshop:
    Dates:
    February 24 – March 31
    Class Description:
Do you have a story to tell? When you drive around your town with a new friend, do you tell them all about how it used to be? Does the conversation often move into small anecdotes and memories that leave you laughing until you have to wipe the tears? If so, then you have a story to tell. This works the same way if you have one of those friends (or grandparents) that tells stories all the time that you just must capture someday. (HINT: this is your day!)
Memoirs catch glimpses of a life – a legacy of experiences and small things that did not slip past notice.  It’s not an autobiography. It’s not a history. Memoirs are a give to those who come after to know what came before.
This class will focus on “what to do with that shoebox full of notes”: how to organize, prompt, and get down to a cadence of writing that soon becomes a habit. We’ll look at simple tools to capture moments and thoughts. Once we have things captured, how to you edit for readability, and how to we publish for the ages?
All ages have stories to tell: A lot happens in middle school, High School is… terrible, College and young adulthood are full of all the feels. Capture now and make a lifetime habit of journalling, micro-blogging, not-so-micro-blogging, and, yes, memoiring (is that even a word?)
The goal of this class will be to have you well on your way to finally clearing that shoebox and building a lasting legacy to share with the world.
